Another excessively hot and humid day is in store for us to close out the work week with high temperatures approaching 100 degrees throughout the New York City metropolitan region. While this particular heat wave is on the extreme side with some of the highest temperatures that we’ve seen at any time during the last 15 years, it will not last too long as some relief is in sight beginning on Sunday. An example of a considerably longer heat wave occurred here during the year of 1953 when New York City recorded 90 degrees or more on 12 straight days. Sunday’s high temperatures will be much closer to 90 degrees than the 100 degrees that we’ll experience today and come close to tomorrow. Even slightly cooler air is coming our way for the 1st half of next week as highs should hold in the mid-to-upper 80’s Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. As far as precipitation is concerned, thunderstorms will be fairly isolated later today and tonight, but somewhat more prevalent tomorrow, and any storms that do occur can produce brief heavy downpours.
