Showers and strong thunderstorms have developed today from south-central to northeastern Pennsylvania and are now developing in and around the District. The threat for heavy showers and strong thunderstorms will continue from the early afternoon hours until the latter part of the evening at which time a frontal system will finally move through the region from the northwest. Some of the showers and thunderstorms will contain heavy downpours and strong, gusty winds this afternoon and evening. Drier air will move in from the west after the overnight frontal passage and Tuesday and Wednesday promise to be much more pleasant days compared to recent days. The price to pay, however, for the improvement in the weather will be the showers and strong thunderstorms that will affect much of the region during the afternoon and evening hours.
