Discussion

August 2011 will go down in the record books at Central Park as being way above normal in terms of total rainfall (18.95 inches) with very close to normal temperatures (+0.1 degrees). The rainfall total for August was more than 14 inches above the normal amount for August and Hurricane Irene contributed nearly 7 inches to that monthly total. The highest temperature recorded in August was 94 degrees and it came on the very first day of the month. There were only 3 days during August with highs of 90 degrees or more, and none since August 8th.
