2:50 PM | Precipitation headed to our south and east tonight

Paul Dorian

Discussion

An area of light snow is currently occurring to the well south of the NYC region from the DC metro region to central Delaware and it looks like this trend will hold through the evening hours sparing us from any problems. This area of precipitation appears to be headed towards South Jersey and may expand to eastern Long Island late tonight where an inch of wet snow could accumulate. Looking ahead, significant rain is likely here Wednesday night into Thursday and then the overall temperature pattern will change beginning on Friday. An Arctic front will move through the region on Friday accompanied by strong wind gusts and perhaps some snow shower activity. Cold air outbreaks will occur more frequently from mid-month on through the second half of January, and the cold air will last longer compared to recent weeks.
