1:45 PM | Could be a wild night with severe thunderstorms and torrential rains

A cold front slicing into near record heat and humidity will produce numerous strong-to-severe thunderstorms in the I-95 corridor from very late this afternoon through much of tonight. The potential exists for damaging winds, hail, and torrential rainfall as well as vivid lightning strikes in and around the big cities along I-95 between about 5PM and 2AM. Temperatures will soar into the 90’s this afternoon and the atmosphere is destabilizing rapidly ahead of this strong, eastward-moving, cold front. Localized flooding is especially a concern in those places that received heavy rainfall during the holiday weekend (e.g. Buck County). Once the front clears the coast tomorrow morning, improvement will begin with less humid conditions likely later tomorrow and comfortable weather for Thursday and Friday. After that, more rain is likely by late Friday night and/or Saturday and cool weather will follow that system to close out the weekend.
