Today will again feature windy and cold conditions with an occasional flurry possible as Canadian high pressure dominates the scene in the eastern US. Farther west, however, there is quite a different picture going on as heavy snow now stretches from the southern Rockies to the central Plains where there will be an all-out blizzard over the next 24 hours with more than a foot of snow accumulation in many locations. Heavy snow will move into the Upper Midwest by tonight (e.g. Chicago, Madison) where half a foot can fall by tomorrow morning. The storm dumping all of this snow will then grind to a halt upon reaching the Great Lakes and it'll also slowly weaken, but it’ll still manage to send an area of moisture into the Mid-Atlantic region by tomorrow night. It should be cold enough around here for a mix of snow, sleet and/or rain tomorrow night, but precipitation amounts will be on the light side and there should be little or no accumulation. Over the weekend, another storm will take shape in the Southeast US and it will become a significant coastal storm by late Saturday. It looks like this storm will be a rainmaker on Saturday in the Mid-Atlantic I-95 corridor from DC to NYC, but a snow producer for much of New England by Saturday night/early Sunday.
