Discussion

A significant storm has moved into the Mid-Atlantic region and precipitation should begin here as rain and then it should gradually change over to snow during the evening hours as colder air wraps around the coastal low pressure system. Accumulations on the order of 1-3 inches are possible in this region by later tonight after primarily rain for the daytime hours. Farther south, heavy snowfall will pile up today across the DC metro region where 6-12 inches should fall up by early tonight with the western suburbs of the District hardest hit. Finally, in a strange twist, once this storm does pull off the east coast by later tonight, it'll tend to spin around for awhile and it could very well throw some more snow back into our region over the next couple of days with additional accumulations.
