A back door cold front has dropped southward overnight through the local area and it has caused a shift in our winds from a southwesterly to a northeasterly direction and, given the cold ocean temperatures, this will make it noticeably cooler today compared to yesterday. Temperatures on Wednesday climbed well into the 70’s across the NYC metro region which is well above normal for this time of year, but will hold in the chilly low-to-mid 50's for today. A more conventional west-to-east moving cold front will approach the region later tonight and Friday bringing with it periods of rain and perhaps a few strong thunderstorms and some of the rain will be heavy to close out the work week. Once the front sweeps off the east coast by tomorrow night, drier air will return to the region and the weekend is shaping up to be pretty decent with high temperatures not far from 60 degrees each day. It should turn somewhat milder early next week with highs approaching 70 degrees by the time Tuesday afternoon rolls around.
