Weather forecasting and analysis, space and historic events, climate information

7:00 AM | Much rain-free time today, but cannot rule out more showers and thunderstorms; a taste of summer on Friday

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

A mix of clouds and sun, a bit milder, while much of the time will be rain-free there will be scattered showers and possibly a thunderstorm or two; especially, during the afternoon hours, highs in the low 70’s

Cloudy, mild, more showers possible, maybe a thunderstorm, lows in the mid 50’s

Partly sunny, very mild, chance for a few afternoon showers and thunderstorms, near 80

Friday Night

Cloudy, mild, showers and thunderstorms likely and some of the rain can be heavy at times, mid-to-upper 50’s

Mostly cloudy, mild, chance for more showers and thunderstorms, low 70’s

Partly sunny, cooler, slight chance for a shower, upper 60’s

Mostly sunny, breezy, chilly, upper 50’s

Mostly sunny, still quite cool, low 60’s

Milder air will edge its way into the region today and then temperatures will reach the 80 degree mark on Friday for a brief taste of summer. While much of the time will be rain-free today and tomorrow, more showers and possible thunderstorms are likely as the unsettled weather pattern continues thanks to a large and slow-moving upper atmospheric low pressure system. A strong cold front will slide eastward this weekend and it will continue the threat for showers and thunderstorms on Saturday. Once this front sweeps off the east coast late in the weekend, dry, but chilly weather will take over for a couple of days. In fact, low temperatures on Monday and Tuesday mornings in the northern and western suburbs could actually be cold enough for some potential damage to outdoor plants. It'll turn noticeably milder again by the middle of next week.
