A powerful nor’easter continues to churn this morning off the southeast coast of New England. The combination of a dry slot of air on its western flank and a slight shift to the east in its storm track spared eastern PA and much of southern NJ from any significant impact and far less in the way of snow accumulations than forecasted. The storm is pounding away at Long Island (18" already at Islip) and New England where blizzard warnings remain in effect and major impacts will take place. High pressure will arrive here on Wednesday and then another clipper low will spread some modest snowfall around here by Thursday night. There will be some bitter cold nights this week with single digits possible on Wednesday night and again Friday night. One note of interest, chalk one up for the upgraded US NOAA GFS computer forecast model as it certainly performed better for this nor'easter in our region in terms of predicted snowfall amounts compared to its European counterpart. Finally, despite the limited snowfall amounts around here this morning, many of the side streets and untreated roadways are quite slippery.
