Discussion

High pressure is now building into the Mid-Atlantic region following the passage of a cool front late yesterday, but the atmosphere may be just unstable enough to produce a stray afternoon shower or thunderstorm across northern sections. Temperatures will be quite pleasant today and on Thursday, but will climb to noticeably warmer levels by Friday afternoon. Looking ahead, as high pressure pushes off the east coast this weekend, more humid air will push into the Mid-Atlantic region from the southwest and the chance for a shower or thunderstorm will increase.

One final note, the Perseid meteor shower peaks late tonight and skies should be favorable with partly cloudy-to-mostly clear conditions. The best time to view the meteors will be between about 11pm and 5am far removed from any bright lights.
