The hot weekend weather will transition to below-normal temperatures by tomorrow in the Mid-Atlantic and the adjustment will lead to showers and thunderstorms as a cold front approaches from the Great Lakes. Some of the storms later today and tonight can be strong-to-severe and there can be torrential rainfall with flash flooding. Following the frontal passage, highs on Tuesday and Wednesday will likely be confined to the lower 80’s which is actually below-normal for late July and some 15-20 degrees cooler than the extreme heat of the past weekend. The much more reasonable weather pattern in terms of temperatures will likely last through the remainder of the month of July in the Mid-Atlantic region.
