High pressure over the western Atlantic will maintain control of Florida’s weather over the next several days. A flow of air out of the south-to-southeast will continue and help to boost temperatures to near 80 degrees for daily highs right into the middle of next week. Following yesterday’s very active day in Florida, colder air will pour into the region as strong low pressure pulls northward over the spine of the Appalachians. The winds will continue to be quite strong and there can be some lingering shower activity. Temperatures during the next couple of nights should drop into the 40’s – well below-normal for late December. The next 70 degree day looks like it’ll have to wait until early next week and we could be setting up for a very comfortable Christmas Day (Tuesday) with highs by then in the low-to-mid 70’s.

Another significant rain event will get underway later today as a powerful storm begins to lift northeast from the northern Gulf of Mexico coastal region. This storm will not only bring us soaking rainfall – perhaps 2-3 inches with locally higher amounts – but also very strong wind gusts potentially past 50 mph. In addition, as the storm moves northward on Friday to the west of the I-95 corridor, warmer air will surge up the Atlantic seaboard and it’ll feel spring-like with temperatures climbing to 60+ degrees in the DC-to-Philly-to-NYC corridor.
