7:00 AM | More rain for the Tennessee Valley

Paul Dorian

An active pattern will result in more rain for the Tennessee Valley over the next couple of days. There may be lingering showers here today and then another round arrives late tonight and continues on Friday as a strong low pressure system pulls out of the southern states. The weekend looks quite nice from this vantage point as high pressure takes over and temperatures should rebound to the 60 degree mark by Sunday afternoon.

7:00 AM | Two more low pressure systems bring rain to the Tennessee Valley in this continuing active weather pattern

Paul Dorian

An active pattern over the next few days will result in a couple different low pressure systems that will impact the Tennessee Valley. There will be occasional rain today, tonight and early Thursday from the first system pulling to the northeast from the southern states. A second and stronger system will push more rain into our area by Friday and we’ll have to wait until the weekend for better weather. In fact, the weekend looks quite nice as high pressure takes over and temperatures rebound to the 60 degree mark by Sunday afternoon.

2:15 PM | *Active weather pattern continues into the new year with two systems to monitor for next week*

Paul Dorian

As the eastern US suffers through yet another soaking rain event to close out this shortened work week, seeds are already being sown for another rain event early next week as this active weather pattern looks like it will continue right into the new year.  Today’s system plunged into the Southwest US earlier this week and is now headed towards the Great Lakes region and well to the west of the I-95 corridor.  Given this well inland track, warmer air has surged northward along the eastern seaboard resulting in plain rain around here and it looks like there may be a repeat performance by the atmosphere early next week.

On Monday, strong energy in the upper atmosphere will pull out of the Southwest US and head towards the eastern Great Lakes - once again keeping the east coast in the warm sector with plain rain likely from later Monday into early Tuesday.  Colder air will then filter into the Mid-Atlantic region at mid-week at the same time another strong wave of energy drops into the Southwest US.  It is still unclear and many days away, but there is a chance that this system may end up taking more of a southern track late next week which would make it a bit trickier in terms of rain versus snow in the Mid-Atlantic region; however, cold air will likely only be marginal.

7:00 AM | *Continuing active pattern to keep the Tennessee Valley on the wet side into the new year*

Paul Dorian

A strong storm will push towards the Great Lakes today and it’ll continue to result in mild, unsettled conditions across the Tennessee Valley. Showers are likely to continue through much of the day and there can be an embedded thunderstorm or two containing heavier downpours. The on-going active pattern will continue well into next week with multiple shots at additional rounds of showers. Temperatures will drop from the 60’s today to the 50’s on Saturday and will stay on the chilly side early next week.

7:00 AM | *Another late week rain event*

Paul Dorian

A strong storm will pull out of the central Plains and head towards the Great Lakes during the next couple of days and it’ll result in a late week rain event around here and some of the rain can be heavy at times. Strong south-to-southwest flow will form as the storm slides west of here and boost temperatures to milder levels – perhaps reaching the middle 60’s by Friday afternoon. The overall pattern will remain on the active side this weekend and there will continue to be a threat of showers.

7:00 AM | *Storm pulls northward today over the spine of the Appalachians...colder air pours into the Tennessee Valley on its backside*

Paul Dorian

A major storm system will slide northward along the spine of the Appalachians today and we’ll experience a cool down in the Tennessee Valley. Temperatures today will likely hold in the low-to-mid 40’s for highs and there can be residual shower activity; especially, in the morning. It is not out of the question that some snowflakes mix in across northeastern Alabama before the precipitation comes to an end. The chilly air mass that has pushed into the region on the backside of the storm will modify this weekend as each day should feature some sunshine.

10:30 AM | **The quiet before the storm…major storm to bring heavy rain, powerful winds, possible drenching thunderstorms, and a feeling of spring to much of the eastern third of the nation**

Paul Dorian

Another significant rain event will get underway later today as a powerful storm begins to lift northeast from the northern Gulf of Mexico coastal region.  This storm will not only bring us soaking rainfall – perhaps 2-3 inches with locally higher amounts – but also very strong wind gusts potentially past 50 mph.  In addition, as the storm moves northward on Friday to the west of the I-95 corridor, warmer air will surge up the Atlantic seaboard and it’ll feel spring-like with temperatures climbing to 60+ degrees in the DC-to-Philly-to-NYC corridor.  Given the already well-saturated grounds, localized flooding is likely to become a real concern over the next 24-48 hours.

7:00 AM | *Widespread plume of moisture flowing northward from Gulf of Mexico and into the Tennessee Valley*

Paul Dorian

A developing major storm system will continue to have an impact on the Tennessee Valley today and it will produce soaking rain for the eastern seaboard from later today through tomorrow. The deep upper-level low will slide east of here by tomorrow and colder air will pour into the region on its backside as we close out the work week. Temperatures tomorrow night could bottom out in the upper 20’s, but a rebound will take place over the weekend.

7:00 AM | *Clouds increase today and rain arrives late tonight*

Paul Dorian

High pressure will begin to break down today as an upper-level trough begins to form in the Deep South. Moisture will begin to stream northeastward later in the day from the southern states and rain is likely around here later tonight night and on Thursday. Colder air will begin to filter into this region at the end of the work week following the eastward movement of the upper-level trough. The weekend is looking quite decent, but cool as high pressure should resume control across the area.

Paul Dorian

High pressure will stay in control for another day in the Tennessee Valley, but will begin to break down on Wednesday as an upper-level trough begins to form in the Deep South. Moisture will begin to stream northeastward on Wednesday from the southern states and rain is likely around here on Wednesday night and Thursday. Colder air will begin to filter into this region at the end of the work week following the eastward movement of the upper-level trough. The weekend is looking quite decent as high pressure should resume control across the area.
