7:00 AM | *Nothing like yesterday, but still unsettled in the Mid-Atlantic*

Paul Dorian

The steady rain is over, but it’ll remain unsettled today as upper-level low pressure only grudgingly pulls away from the area. As a result, there will be lots of clouds around and a few showers are likely mainly in the afternoon hours. High pressure will build into the area tonight and Wednesday promises to be a milder day with some sunshine. Another frontal system will come our way tomorrow night and it can be accompanied by a few showers and another front may result in the same on Friday. Warmer weather is likely this weekend with a run at 80 degrees possible by Sunday afternoon.

7:00 AM | *Showers and thunderstorms likely during the PM hours*

Paul Dorian

An unsettled weather pattern will begin the week in central Florida as a weak surface cool front will stall in the northern part of the state. Ahead of the front, the atmosphere should destabilize enough for the likelihood of afternoon showers and thunderstorms in this area and some storms can reach strong levels. It will still quite active into the mid-week time period thanks to a strong southern branch of the jet stream across the Gulf of Mexico.

7:00 AM | *Very comfortable to start the week, but we could get to near 90 degrees for highs by the beginning of the weekend*

Paul Dorian

The new week will start off quite nice with NW flow aloft, plenty of sunshine and comfortable highs in the lower 70’s. The weather will become more unsettled by mid-week and showers and thunderstorms will become likely on Wednesday and perhaps arrive as early as late tomorrow night. Later this week, heights will increase in the upper part of the atmosphere and our moderate temperatures will become much more summer-like with highs near 90 degrees possible by the weekend.

7:00 AM | *Rainy days and Mondays*

Paul Dorian

Our extended soaking rain event that began this weekend is not through with us yet as today will feature periods of rain as low pressure intensifies off the Mid-Atlantic coastline. Some of the rain can be heavy at times and it’ll remain unusually chilly for mid-May as temperatures struggle escape the 40’s. The threat of showers will continue tonight and a few lingering showers are possible tomorrow as well as upper-level low pressure will be slow to exit the region. With the return of some sunshine on Wednesday, it’ll turn milder, but more showers are possible on Wednesday night as another frontal system arrives in the area.

Some of the rain can be heavy at times and it’ll remain unusually cool for mid-May as temperatures struggle to climb out of the 50’s. The threat of showers will continue tonight and we cannot completely rule out a shower early on Tuesday as upper-level low pressure will be slow to exit the region. With the return of some sunshine on Wednesday, it’ll turn milder, but more showers are possible on Wednesday night as another frontal system arrives in the area.

3:20 PM | *Showers/storms this evening...soaking rain event begins this weekend for an extended period*

Paul Dorian

There will be scattered showers and thunderstorms later this afternoon and tonight in the DC-to-Philly-to-NYC corridor as a cold front approaches and some of it will be on the heavy side; especially, south of the PA/MD border. This rain event will be relatively short-lived compared to what is coming later this weekend and early next week. Following tonight’s cold frontal passage, weak high pressure will try to get us off to a decent start this weekend, but it will be facing long odds as low pressure will head our way from the Lower Mississippi Valley.  Rain is likely to return to the Mid-Atlantic region late in the day tomorrow or early tomorrow night and then continue off and on into Tuesday of next week.  The heaviest rainfall may come in two parts with one period centered on tomorrow night into Sunday morning and then a second phase from late Sunday into Monday.  Residual showers may very well last into the day on Tuesday in the Mid-Atlantic region.

7:00 AM | *Good chance of showers and thunderstorms each of the next few days*

Paul Dorian

The overall weather pattern remains quite unsettled today and there will likely be showers and thunderstorms to deal with from today through the upcoming weekend. A storm system with attendant front will trek slowly to the east over the next couple of days from the Rockies to the Tennessee Valley and this combined with a moist southerly flow of air will bring us occasional showers and thunderstorms and some of the rain can be heavy at times. Nice weather is likely to return to the Tennessee Valley by the early part of next week with the return of sunshine to go along with warm conditions.

7:00 AM | **Another soaking rain event is on the way from later tomorrow into Monday**

Paul Dorian

A cold frontal system will approach the region today and it’ll turn windy and warmer ahead of it with temperatures jumping well into the 70’s this afternoon and there will be scattered showers and thunderstorms. High pressure will try to provide a decent start to the weekend, but a soaking rain event is likely from late Saturday into Monday. The rain during this extended event may come in two waves with the heaviest likely from Saturday night into Sunday morning and then Sunday night into Monday. It will be quite cool during this event as well with temperatures likely doing no better than the low-to-mid 60's for highs on Sunday and Monday.
