A stalled out frontal boundary zone will be close enough to the region to result in unsettled weather for much of the week across northern Alabama. A series of upper-level waves of energy will move along the stalled out frontal boundary zone and generate bands of showers and thunderstorms over coming days and some of the storms can be strong-to-severe. Any shower or thunderstorm in this pattern storm can produce some heavy rainfall and – given the already well saturated grounds – localized flooding may become an increasing concern.

High pressure will remain entrenched across the area on Friday and Saturday and temperatures will bounce back to near 90 degrees by Saturday afternoon after a rather comfortable end to the work week. As the high pushes to the east of here on Sunday, our low-level winds will take on more of a southwesterly direction and pump in more moisture. The added moisture will combine with multiple short waves during the early and middle parts of next week to bring back a daily threat for showers and thunderstorms.

High pressure will build into the area on Thursday and we should enjoy a couple of decent days in the Tennessee Valley. A cold front will sweep across the Tennessee Valley today and there is the chance for some shower and thunderstorm activity as a result. It’ll turn cooler later tonight and temperatures should fall into the upper 50’s for overnight lows. The last time temperatures here were below 60 degrees was about a month ago in the middle of May. High pressure ridging continues to dominate the scene across the Southeast US and we’ll have another hot and rain-free day in the Tennessee Valley, but it becomes much more unsettled as the week progresses. Deep moisture surges into the region at mid-week as a strong upper-level disturbance slides across the region and our chances for showers and thunderstorms will increase.
