Another extremely cold morning around the region with some amazing low temperatures that include the following: -9 at Millville, NJ, -3 at Atlantic City, NJ, -4 in Quakertown, PA, -6 in Ocean City, MD. These extreme cold temperatures show the power of Arctic air combined with clear skies, calm winds and snow cover. The power of "urban heat island" effect also was revealed this morning as Philly Airport "only" dropped to 10 degrees (above zero). Temperatures will modify noticeably by tomorrow afternoon and the weekend will be mild with highs in the 40's on both days. A cold front will push through the region on Sunday and it'll turn moderately colder early next week. While there can be a few rain or snow shower this weekend and early next week, no significant precipitation is expected through that period. However, by later Tuesday and into Wednesday the Gulf of Mexico will "open up" and a significant precipitation event is possible. It'll be marginally cold for this Tuesday/Wednesday storm and a mixed precipitation event is possible with ice, snow and/or rain. Another significant storm could follow at the end of next week or during the following weekend with snow or rain.
