Discussion

Cold weather will close out the work week and the weekend will remain well-below normal for this time of year. In fact, record cold is possible early Saturday as temperatures overnight will plunge to the mid-to-upper single digit levels in some suburban locations. February ends on Saturday and it may end up being the 5th or 6th coldest February ever in Philadelphia where records go back to the 1800's. State College, PA is on a pace that will make this the coldest February ever recorded up there. As March begins on Sunday, a cold front will approach the Mid-Atlantic region. This front will likely generate some snow in the region later Sunday which should then turn into a wintry mix by Sunday night. Much milder air is likely to move in by the middle of next week, but it will be accompanied by rainfall, perhaps heavy at times, and then another batch of Arctic air is destined to return during the second half of next week.
