First, a very dangerous setup is unfolding for later today in Oklahoma and Kansas and unfortunately, it will likely result in a widespread tornado outbreak - warn anyone you may know out there to stay on guard this afternoon and evening. Around here, a dramatic surge of very warm air pushed afternoon temperatures to well up in the 80’s on Wednesday and they can climb into the lower 90’s later today with possible record-breaking levels attained in some spots of the Mid-Atlantic. It’ll stay quite warm on Friday as well with highs well up in the 80’s to end the work week, but there is relief coming this weekend as a back door cold front pushes through the region. This front will bring about a low-level wind shift from southwest to northeast – and that will bring much cooler air into the region from off of the still-chilly waters of the western Atlantic Ocean. Temperatures this weekend are likely to be held to near the 70 degree mark for highs on both days. On Monday, a strong cold front is likely to produce PM showers and thunderstorms up and down the I-95 corridor as it pushes eastward from the Ohio Valley. Looking ahead, there are signs for a cooler-than-normal pattern to set up again in much of the eastern half of the nation as we head into the Memorial Day weekend.
