2:00 PM | Weekend snow threat continues here with accumulations possible by Sunday afternoon

Paul Dorian

Discussion

The computer forecast model trend for slightly more precipitation from this upcoming system continues with the latest updates. A strong storm is currently pounding parts of the Rockies and Plains with heavy snow and it will then head east in a weaker phase over the weekend. This storm will likely spread precipitation our way on an occasional basis from late Saturday afternoon into Sunday. It is likely that the precipitation starts as rain, or perhaps a mix of rain and snow, but this should change to all snow by Sunday morning. There is even the chance for snow accumulations (1-3” range) on Sunday after the changeover occurs; especially, in those suburbs that are north of the District (e.g., Montgomery and Howard Counties, MD). It appears that this system will mainly affect only those places south of I-80 (i.e. DC-to-Philly will get hit while NYC-to-BOS get very little or nothing at all). Check for updates this weekend at “thesiweather.com”. Another threat (possible coastal storm) looms for late next week or weekend.
