The first winter weather event of the season for the NYC metro region is coming on Thursday and Thursday night as low pressure intensifies along the east coast. This coastal storm may end up impacting the region for an extended period of time from early tomorrow into early Friday as it takes on a “double-barrel” type of structure. At least the latter part of the morning commute could be impacted by this system as precipitation is likely to develop by mid-morning. Some accumulations of snow and ice are likely on the order of a coating to an inch or two in NYC and points south and east, 2-5 inches are possible in the northern and western suburbs. Much more significant snow can fall from this unfolding coastal storm across interior, higher elevation locations of the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast US.
