7:00 AM | *Still very unsettled as we head into the weekend...turns hotter on Sunday and Monday*

Paul Dorian

The upper-level trough of low pressure that has been sitting to our west and south in recent days will weaken later today and an upper-level ridge will expand westward along the eastern seaboard during the weekend. As a result, the unsettled weather we’ve been experiencing in recent days will tend to settle down this weekend and it’ll also turn rather hot by early next week. High temperatures of at least 90 degrees are back on the table for around here as we end the weekend and begin the new work week.

7:00 AM | *Tropical flow of air continues to ride northward up the east coast...turns hotter for Sunday, Monday, Tuesday*

Paul Dorian

Strong upper-level low pressure is situated over the south-central US and it is combining with a Bermuda high pressure system to persistently pump moist air from the tropical Atlantic to the Mid-Atlantic. The threat for showers and thunderstorms will continue right into the early part of the weekend and, given the well-saturated grounds, flash flooding will remain a concern over the next few days. The threat for showers and thunderstorms will diminish for the bulk of the weekend and it'll turn hotter early next week with temperatures climbing back to the 90 degree mark for highs.

7:00 AM | *Strong storms possible later today*

Paul Dorian

A warm front passed through the region in the overnight hours and it’ll turn warmer for the next few days and higher humidity will lead to occasional downpours in the Mid-Atlantic region. Strong upper-level low pressure is situated over the Midwest and it is combining with a Bermuda High to pump moist air from the tropical Atlantic to the Mid-Atlantic. The threat for showers and thunderstorms will continue right into the weekend and, given the well-saturated grounds, flash flooding could become an increasing problem as the week progresses.

7:00 AM | *Mainly rain-free today...downpours possible Wednesday-to-Friday as tropical moisture rides up the coast*

Paul Dorian

Yet another period of wet weather is unfolding for the eastern third of the nation and it will include some downpours for the I-95 corridor during the second half of the week. Strong upper-level low pressure has developed over the Midwest and it will combine with a Bermuda High to pump moist air from the tropical Atlantic to the Mid-Atlantic during the next several days. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible around here later today and tonight and then are likely to be more widespread in the Wednesday-to-Friday time period. Given the fact that grounds are very well saturated throughout the region, flash flooding will likely become an increasing threat as the week progresses.

7:00 AM | *Another stretch of wet weather for the Mid-Atlantic region with potential downpours*

Paul Dorian

Yet another extended period of wet weather is unfolding for the eastern third of the nation and it may include some downpours. Strong upper-level low pressure will develop over the Midwest in the coming days and it will combine with a Bermuda High to persistently pump moist air from south-to-north along the eastern seaboard. As a result, there will be an increasing chance of showers and thunderstorms today and then a rather high chance through the remainder of the week. Given the fact that grounds are very well saturated throughout the region, flash flooding will remain an on-going serious threat.

2:15 PM | *Strong-to-severe thunderstorms are popping and downpours are possible…great satellite imagery of an “undular bore” earlier today near the tip of southern NJ*

Paul Dorian

A strong cool front is closing in on the I-95 corridor and strong-to-severe thunderstorms are popping over the past couple of hours. Daytime heating is contributing to increasing instability in the atmosphere and the coverage and intensity of shower and thunderstorm activity should increase through the afternoon hours. Any storm that forms over the next several hours can produce brief downpours, damaging gusty winds and even some hail.  There is also the potential for some steadier and heavier rain this evening; especially, in areas north of the PA/MD border.

7:00 AM | *Strong-to-severe storm threat late today...decent weekend...wet pattern returns next week in the eastern US*

Paul Dorian

A strong cool front will approach the region later today and there can be a band of strong-to-severe thunderstorms that develop just ahead of this system with a possible impact here late in the day or early tonight. The best chance for brief downpours and potential strong-to-severe thunderstorm activity will likely come somewhere in the 2-10PM time period. Following the frontal passage, the weekend should turn out to be pretty decent around here with some sunshine expected each day, but the overall weather pattern shaping up for next week has a rather familiar and wet look to it. In fact, there is likely to be more soaking rainfall next week in the already well-saturated eastern US as a persistent south-to-north flow of moist air develops along the eastern seaboard – in much the same fashion as it did earlier this week.

7:00 AM | *Improvement today...possible strong-to-severe storms late tomorrow...weekend looks pretty decent...more wet weather next week*

Paul Dorian

While we’ll still have a threat for an isolated shower or thunderstorm today, there will be noticeable improvement with plenty of sunshine and warmer conditions. A cool front will approach on Friday and there can be a band of strong-to-severe thunderstorms that form just ahead of this front - perhaps having an impact in our area late in the day or early tomorrow night. The weekend should turn out to be pretty decent around here with some sunshine expected each day, but the overall weather pattern shaping up for next week has a rather familiar and wet look to it. In fact, and I don't like saying this, but there may be more heavy rainfall next week in much of the eastern US.

12:30 PM | ***Coastal storm to enhance rainfall later this afternoon and tonight in the Mid-Atlantic/Northeast US***

Paul Dorian

A low pressure system will form later today along the Delmarva/New Jersey coastal region and it will result in more downpours, gusty winds and perhaps even a period of steady, heavy rain for much of the I-95 corridor.  In recent days, the axis of heaviest rainfall has extended from the Chesapeake Bay/DC metro region to central Pennsylvania, but this coastal low pressure system will bring some heavy rainfall to places farther east such as New Jersey and New York City.

7:00 AM | *More soaking rainfall as wet pattern persists for another day...weekend looking decent*

Paul Dorian

A very wet weather pattern in the Mid-Atlantic region will continue for another 24 hours as a deep upper-level trough edges northeastward from the Southeast US. The movement to the northeast of this upper-level feature will act to provide additional "lift" to the atmosphere which should be enough to continue the chance for tropical downpours in the DC-Philly-NYC corridor later today. The threat of showers and thunderstorms will continue here on Thursday and Friday; but the rain will be less widespread and there should be some sunshine on each day. High pressure edges in for the weekend which is looking pretty decent at this point, but more wet weather is likely next week.
